Our team develops, designs, produces and ships everything from Findlay, Ohio, so when you buy Elida Candle Company you can trust that you are buying products that have been made with care.
What ingredients do you use? Our candles are made with 100% domestically-grown soy wax, cotton core wicks, and a blend of fine fragrance oils that consist of natural and man-made materials.
Why soy? We choose to work with soy wax for a variety of reasons. We love that it burns more cleanly - and better yet - for a longer period of time than paraffin. We love the way soy wax smells mixed with a good fragrance. Soy candles are better for the environment and your health: they are non-toxic and burn cleaner than paraffin wax. It produces as much as 90% less soot than paraffin wax. This soot can blacken walls, ceilings, and furniture, contaminate ventilation ductwork in your home, and most importantly, add toxic carcinogens into the air that you breathe. We love that it's an 100% renewable resource and carbon neutral. It also helps U.S. farmers by creating important economic growth for the agricultural sector of the US economy.
How is soy wax made? Soy beans are husked and dried into flake form, then the oil is extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated. The hydrogenation alters the chemical compound so that soy bean oil is a solid at room temperature - soy wax! Leftover bean husks are typically used as animal feed.
Do you use essential oils in your candles? We use high-quality, clean fragrance oils that are specifically made for candles and many contain essential oil components. In addition, all of our fragrances are free of phthalates and parabens, as well as a long list of other undesirable chemicals known to cause cancer and other health issues. The delicate and costly nature of essential oils does not lend to creating candles, so we recommend customers diffuse or otherwise enjoy essential oils, and buy high quality, natural wax candles for burning. We do offer essential oils for sale on our web site!
What about dyes or other additives? Nope, and nope. Our candles are natural wax and fragrance oil only, and we use cotton wicks free of metal, zinc and lead.
How do I clean up a soy wax spill? Soy wax cleans up very easily with mild soap and warm water.
Can I send a candle as a gift? Absolutely! If you would like a hand-written gift message, just make a note at checkout.
